Fundamentals of EMI

The issue of media treatment of migration is the subject of growing attention and more and more actions, in the increased polarization of opinions around this issue. For several years, several European cooperation agencies have been funding media capacity building actions around migration issues in various countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

More recently, French cooperation actors have developed initiatives in this area (example of the Dialogues Migrations project by CFI and Mediamig by AFD), as part of the French strategy on migration and development. Civil society organizations also implement actions to combat disinformation through educational actions and the dissemination of facts established by scientific research (for example, in France, Désinfox-Migrations). Finally, research centers are also working on the comparative analysis of political and media discourse and their impact on public opinion between different countries (example of the BRIDGES and DIMIG projects).

In this context, this round table proposed by the Institut Convergences migrations et Désinfox-Migrations, in partnership with the MEAE, AFD, CFI and Bridges, aims to strengthen mutual knowledge and synergies between these different initiatives, by bringing them to the attention of a wider audience, including students, in order to collectively contribute to better informed public debates on migration issues.
